Fr. Ambrose Dwyer council is located across from St. James Church, Main Street, Johnson City, NY. This is the Council Home of both Thomas C. Hovancik, Past State Deputy and Former Vice Supreme Master and of Thomas A. Boslet, Former State Secretary. The Grand Knight for 2009-2010 is Thomas J. Abbadessa. Council 2953 was founded in December of 1945 through the efforts of James A. Davis, a local Druggist. It is named after Fr. Ambrose Dwyer, a Knight of Columbus, who came to be one of the best known and most loved Priests in the Syracuse Diocese. Our council hosts a large number of council activities throughout the year. Weekly activities include Bingo on Thursday. Annual activities include: Clam and Steak Bake, Super Bowl Party, Easter Celebration, JC Field Days, Turkey Party, and Children's Christmas Party. We sponsor a number of Peewee teams and a Boy Scout Venture group and we hold the annual Freethrow basketball competition.
